WHAT WE DO

Strategic Education

Education is a human right with immense power to transform.

On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy,

and sustainable human development. - Kofi Annan

The American Baptist Mission (ABM) Primary and High Schools are located in South India. The student body is 100% Dalits and these schools have given free education to rural Dalits and poor children for the last 86 years. With government aid we also provide them free nutritive midday meals daily.

There are seven high school teachers and two primary shcool teachers. Two of these
salaries are fully funded through donations to IMPACT Community International.
ABM School was established in 1934 by Rev. Frank Kurtz as a mission to educate and
empower the poorest in the community—the mission continues today.

Our newest initiative we are introducing soon is called COACH: a holistic education for 2nd through 5th graders in response to the deficit caused by COVID and lockdowns. You can read more about it here on our blog.

Educating rural Dalit kids is a long-term investment in their future.

Discrimination is the greatest hindrance to bringing an end to generational poverty. Our school offers these children a safe and equitable environment in which to grow and learn. Our programs meet the social and emotional needs of our students even as we offer them a quality curriculum to help them stay in school and complete their education.

The uniqueness of our programs:

They present zero discrimination or social exclusion.

They promote inquiry over memorization.

They prioritize engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

They nurture reflection and critical thinking.

They assist in the development of moral standards of equity and justice.

They encourage good reading habits.

They focus on the acquisition of employable skills as an added value.

They assure competency in the English language and high standards of learning designed for upward socioeconomic mobility.

It takes a caring community to raise a child that will be a whole person and a contributing citizen. - Jessye Norman
